Saturday, May 6- Learn to Weave on The Rigid Heddle Loom.  10 AM-4PM.  $100.00 ($25.00 deposit holds your space).  Bring your own loom or use one of ours (limit 4 students). 

Max of 3 students without looms. *Includes the use of loom and all materials; if you have your own loom, please bring it*. Learn how to weave on the Ashford Knitter’s Loom!.  This portable, easy to use rigid heddle loom provides an infinite amount of design possibilities. It is called the Knitter’s Loom because it is a great way to use your left over yarns from knitting projects. If you have your own rigid heddle loom, feel free to bring it!

Have you ever looked at a beautifully woven item and thought, “I wish I could create something like that?” then this class is for you. Rigid heddle loom weaving is simple to learn and offers an extraordinary range of creativity. In this workshop students will learn basic weaving terminology and techniques and be weaving in no time. You will weave a sample which will teach different weaving patterns and allow for exploration with color and texture. If you’re a knitter or spinner this is a great way to use up your stash! You will be surprised by how a small loom can inspire the fiber artist in you.

Learn to weave on an inkle loom!  An inkle is a warp-faced plain weave band.  You can make belts, hat bands, dog collars, bracelts, ties, straps, and more.   In this class, you will learn how to use an inkle loom, and to warp and weave a band.  You will learn to love this fun, portable craft.

Leave the driving (and parking) to someone else and come enjoy NY Sheep and Wool (www.sheepandwool.com) with a fun crew! We have chartered a comfy motorcoach that holds 35, so come join us!  Depart Madison  (EXIT 61 /RT 79 COMMUTER LOT) at 7 AM- leave the festival at 5 PM- arrive back in Madison approximately 7 PM.   Raffles, fun, knitting and more! Feel free to bring food and beverage, we will make stops for bathroom breaks. *New:  we will have pick up and drop off at the commuter lot near RT 8/I95 exit 25 in Bridgeport/Trumbull around 8 AM!

It’s fiber festival time!  The season kicks off with CT Sheep and Woolon Saturday, April 29: http://www.ctsheep.org/sheep_wool__fiber_festival.  Have you always wanted to buy a raw fleece to spin or send off to be processed into yarn/roving at the mill, but didn’t know what to look for?  Join Mary as she shows you how to choose a good fleece (sheep and alpaca), and also how to skirt (remove the unusable parts) and wash like a pro.  You will leave with the confidence to pick out a good fleece on your own!

More Fun and Funky Art Yarn Spinning with Shannon!

More Fun with Art Yarn Spinning- Creative Plying Workshop.  With Shannon Herrick (The Spun Monkey).  Sunday, April 9, 2017  1-4 PM.  $75.00 (some fiber included).  $20.00 deposit holds your space.  Limit 5 Students.   

Let's see what happens when we spin yarn around yarn in this exploration of plying techniques. We'll start with Navajo-ply (three-ply chain) and then play with using plying for texture building (stacks, coils, crescents, fringe).

Come with one full bobbin of a single-ply, so we can warm up our fingers with chain-plying right away. You'll need extra bobbins, a plying head if you have it, and a lazy kate. Our third hour is student's choice, so think about techniques you want to know more about, or bring materials you are wondering how to use.

What to bring: niddy noddy, extra bobbins, lazy kate, yarn for plying and corespinning, add ins, and any fiber you would like to use.  Some fiber and fun add ins included for you to card your own batts for spinning in class.

You will learn how to manipulate wool roving and loose fibers with sharp, barbed needles that cause the fiber to felt without water. Bring your sense of fun and adventure!

If you would like to learn how to create unique yarn for your knitting or fiber projects, this class is for you. This workshop will teach: why wool spins into yarn, how to prepare wool for spinning, how to spin on a drop spindle and a spinning wheel.  Many types of wheels are available to try, and you will learn which type is right for you

Part 1: Will teach the basics of fiber preparation, drafting and spinning on a drop spindle

Part 2: will teach basic spinning on a spinning wheel, the types of spinning wheel (Scotch tension vs Irish tension, Single vs Double treadle, etc).   If you have your own wheel, please bring it.

Finally! A great first sweater, and a sweater for the men (or a great ‘Boyfriend’ sweater for yourself or a friend).  Learn to knit one of Churchmouse Yarns newest patterns- a saddle shoulder pullover.  This sweater has the nice ease of a drop shoulder but with a shaped shoulder line and sleeve cap.  In this class, you will learn how to correctly swatch for gauge for proper fit, how to adjust the body length to fit, how to bind off for sloped edges, and proper seaming and finishing techniques. Knit with worsted weight yarn, there are many great choices for making this sweater your own

During knitting, crochet and spinning projects our hands, arms, necks and even legs can become numb, cramped and fatigued. In this self care class we will go over different stretches, tips, and massage techniques to help relieve some of these issues. A hand out will be given, as well as complimentary hand and neck massage for each person.

Jackie Gargano, Licensed Massage Therapist, is the owner of Generations Massage Therapy (www.generationsmassagetherapy.com) in Madison, CT.  Jackie has been an LMT since 2006, and is trained in various methods and techniques.  She has worked in both clinical settings and at spas & resorts.   In her free time she also knits, crochets and spins.  She understands the body mechanics involved in various fiber arts and is happy to help your hands stay healthy and productive!
